My Story
The Beginning
From as far back as I can remember, I have always had a deep desire to help others. Growing up in a Caribbean household, supporting those around you wasn’t just encouraged; it was expected. This sense of community became an integral part of my identity. When I moved to the UK, that aspect of myself remained unchanged. Whether in school, college, or eventually in the workplace, I found myself drawn to people, how we think, how we work together, and what conditions help us thrive.
Everything came together when I began studying for my CIPD qualifications. That's when I realised that HR was not just about paperwork and policies; it was fundamentally about people, those who show up to work each day, facing challenges, juggling pressures, and keeping businesses operational. I witnessed how thoughtful, people-first practices could transform a workplace from the inside out, and I wanted to be part of that change.
As the years passed, I realised my purpose is to serve and uplift others. Those are the things that drive me.
The Corporate Climb
I started, like many people in administrative roles across various corporate settings, by learning quickly and jumping in wherever I was needed. I loved being the go-to person, the one who could figure things out, support others, and bring a sense of calm to the chaos.
However, as much as I was growing, something didn’t feel quite right. I craved real connections. I didn’t want to just check boxes; I wanted to make a genuine difference for people. The deeper I got into HR (recruitment, employee engagement, employee relations, policies, employment law, and training and development), the clearer it became that this was where I truly belonged. It was about working with people, and I was all in.
The Turning Point
With over a decade of experience in the construction industry and a deep understanding of the corporate landscape, I have worked closely with builders, engineers, electricians, plumbers, roofers, plasterers, and site managers.
Throughout this journey, I frequently encountered a common scenario with smaller firms: passionate and hardworking individuals juggling multiple responsibilities. They excel in their trades but are often overwhelmed by HR challenges they never anticipated.
A pivotal moment came during a conversation with a small business owner who was completely burnt out from ensuring projects were completed promptly, as well as managing contracts, compliance, and team issues. That’s when it became clear to me: this is where I’m needed. This is where I can make the biggest difference.
The Journey as an Independent Consultant
I chose to leave the corporate world to start my own HR consultancy, Seraphim HR, driven by a desire for a more empathetic approach to HR for both employers and employees. This venture has been thrilling yet intimidating, presenting many new challenges that have taught me valuable lessons.
I work with small construction businesses, navigating HR complexities with a focus on compassion and understanding. My mission is to create a clear, supportive experience, whether it’s fostering workplace culture, implementing effective HR strategies, or aiding individual career growth. I aim to make a meaningful difference for my clients.
The Heart of My Work
At the core of everything I do is a simple truth: people matter.
Every business I support isn’t just a company; it’s the realisation of someone’s vision, their legacy, and their hard work. Behind every policy and every HR challenge is a person trying to do their best for their team, their family, and their future.
My role goes beyond merely solving problems. It’s about listening, uplifting, and creating workplaces where people can thrive, not just survive. The proudest part of my journey is knowing that I help individuals feel less overwhelmed, more confident, and more connected to their work.
When people feel valued, everything else falls into place. That’s what I’m here to help achieve.
Looking Forward
I’m very proud of the businesses I’ve supported so far.
My promise is to always stay grounded, human, and practical. No fluff. No judgment. Just real support, tailored to your world.
Thanks for stopping by. I’d love to be part of your journey too.
